OUR WORK WITH

SURFING FOR FARMERS

We’re fortunate to work alongside Bayleys Canterbury, who dedicate their partnership with us to delivering a variety of community-based initiatives throughout the region.

Bayleys Country sells more farmland than any other agency in New Zealand. We spend a lot of time talking with farmers, and with many farmers in our team, we’re deeply involved in rural communities. With so many communities, this gives us many opportunities to give back to different aspects of our community through an array of charity work like Surfing for Farmers.

Surfing for farmers was started in 2019 by Bayleys rural real estate agent Stephen Thomson. Knowing first-hand the pressures farmers face, and learning how surfing can help with stress, he thought, “What if we could get farmers out on the waves?”

Surfing for Farmers offers mental and physical stress relief, and escape from farmers’ everyday lives. And it’s completely free. We provide the gear, coaching and BBQ for hungry surfers. Whatever you farm, wherever you farm it, we’ve got a surfboard waiting for you at 21 locations around Aotearoa, including two in Canterbury.

“For farmers, stepping
back from the job can be especially hard. Surfing is a way to disconnect from this high pressure environment.”
